Hanging Gardens

I am currently updating my blog, that is why I am not posting too much. I feel I need a new platform to make my blog more interesting and easier for me to update. Also I need to make a change now to feel more inspired about it.

I have created this new site for my latest photo series that I have been working with a lot.
The new blog will be also on the similar platform that makes it easier for me to update them both.

So here, follow this link to my new series Hanging Gardens. Hope you like it. I am updating the site so there will be some more photos and info to come. Later I'll share my blog too but meanwhile, enjoy this.

Ps. I'll be happy to hear comments and thoughts about the series.

                                                                                    Rue de Rivoli

I've been documenting the "homes" of the homeless people on Paris. The objects they have and how they manage. The amount of homeless people in Paris is surely above 12000, nobody really knows the exact amount. I first published this series in my Instagram, my username there is iirislilja if you want to follow my feed.

l'Arche de Noé

One of the few places that I always keep going back to in Paris is Jardin des Plantes and the many museums it has. One of them is Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle.

More photos of the exhibition Expanded Photography. Here you can see how big the gallery Forum Box is, and in general how we put six photographers in the space. In the gallery there is also two big spaces for the videos, other one is up the stairs and the other one is just near the entrance, called Media Box. Normally artists apply to Media Box separately, but we were lucky to get the whole gallery in our use. Artists: Jonna Kina, myself, Aleksi Linnamaa, Laura Paavilainen, Jarkko Räsänen and Filippo Zambon.

I would like to do for a little while some really cheesy classic Paris photos.

Guardian angel

The statue that stands above the Omaha Beach alone. This year is the 70th anniversary of D-day, head out to Normandy in June if you're interested to see the festivities of the day. I know they will host a big event at the Mémorial de Caen-museum.

I guess Easter is a good time to remember those who sacrificed themselves for the sake of others. Also my grandfather was fighting then, on Finland's side. On a war called Winter War. He came back home safely.  Later he had a good life, on a farm in the heart of Finland. Part of my family still lives there, but some of his grandchildren have travelled far. I guess he travelled further back then.

My cameras

I thought to introduce to those who are interested, the cameras I am using.

I have a few.

1. Mamiya 7. My number one, medium size film camera that I love and adore. I use it when I am doing the serious artistic work. I don't take other photos with this camera, the film and developing it takes money.
Check out this photo

2. Mamiya RB67. My old film camera, which i had since 2007 or 2008. I used it all the time when I was in art schools and after. It requires a tripod every time I use it. Now I prefer Mamiya 7 that is not so heavy.

3. Nikon D200. My digital camera. I use it in the professional photo shoots, like weddings etc. It's not the fanciest of the bunch, but I like it. I think I will get a better one when I get some money.

4. Canon AV1. My father's old 35 mm. I love this camera, when I saw my father using it I became interested in photography in the first place. I still remember the first time he let me take a photo with it. It sounds so cheesy but it is true. I got the camera later from him.  I use it sometimes when I feel special.

5. Diana F. Also takes medium size film. Is known for its effects it creates randomly. Lomography lovers no 1 classic.. I like to use it when I find some old film or when I go on holidays.

6. Canon Powershot sx20. I use this to make some videos. I have started to take a lot of video material but so far I haven't managed to develop my ideas further. Also it's great for macro shooting.
Check here

7. Samsung Galaxy SII. My phone that I make instagrams with. I think it is like a little sketchbook.

Voilà!

Omaha Beach

Beautiful and impressive, Omaha Beach. The emptiness that exists there.
