The statue that stands above the Omaha Beach alone. This year is the 70th anniversary of D-day, head out to Normandy in June if you're interested to see the festivities of the day. I know they will host a big event at the Mémorial de Caen-museum.
I guess Easter is a good time to remember those who sacrificed themselves for the sake of others. Also my grandfather was fighting then, on Finland's side. On a war called Winter War. He came back home safely. Later he had a good life, on a farm in the heart of Finland. Part of my family still lives there, but some of his grandchildren have travelled far. I guess he travelled further back then.
